The last name "Hanko" appears to have originated in Eastern Europe from Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary/Romania, Apparently, this name is a derived from the Polish/Slavic diminutive for "John," hence it means "Johnny." We could translate this into English as "Johnson." Though it's an uncommon name, there's no guarantee all Hankos are related, especially since Hanko is a patronymic. Still, all Hankos and related families are encouraged to contribute.

Any males who have had their Y DNA tested are encouraged to contribute. In my Hanko line, the YDNA is R-L23 which is an extremely broad group. Other YDNA Hankos are likely out there.
